Grants Awarded

The Fund awarded $31 million in grants in 2007, more than doubling our investment over the past ten years. Nearly 60% of grants were paid to local organizations in San Francisco and Alameda County. Approximately 30% of grants were national in scope and 10% were directed to the state level.

In an effort to improve life chances for the most disadvantaged families and kids in low-income Bay Area neighborhoods, the Fund committed more than $4.6 million to strengthen neighborhoods and nearly $6 million to enhance opportunities for children, youth and families to fulfill their potential to lead productive lives.

The Fund invested nearly $10.6 million to promote equal rights and access for immigrant and gay and lesbian communities in 2007, in the face of challenges in both movements.

2007 also marked the third anniversary of the Fund’s pilot Flexible Leadership Awards program. Working by invitation with 14 well-established local and national nonprofits, the Fund invested nearly $1.7 million to help strengthen the leadership of the award recipients and to develop resources for building nonprofit leadership in the Bay Area.
