At the core of the Haas, Jr. Fund’s philanthropy is a vision of a just and caring society, as measured by how well it provides fundamental rights and opportunities to all people.
This vision drives our work to help ensure that disadvantaged and vulnerable groups—including immigrants, gays and lesbians, people of color and children—are able to achieve their full potential in our communities, our economy and our society.
The Haas, Jr. Fund’s focus on Rights & Opportunities leads us to team up with those who share our commitment to equality, fairness and justice. In these partnerships, we’re working to:
Immigrant Rights and Integration: Strengthen the movement for full rights and for integration of immigrants into our society with access to opportunities needed to succeed and contribute.
Gay and Lesbian Rights: Advance the civil rights of gays and lesbians, including the right to marry and to participate as equals in key institutions, particularly the faith communities.
Education Opportunities: Close the racial and economic achievement gaps in education and help move people out of poverty and into family-supporting jobs.
Leadership: Support the leadership of nonprofit organizations working toward equality and fairness so they have a better chance of achieving their goals.
Community Partnerships and Initiatives: Create opportunities for people to enjoy cultural and civic assets in the Bay Area and support initiatives that provide services to residents in need.
