Cheryl Rogers

Program Director: Children, Families and Neighborhoods

Cheryl Rogers serves as program director for the Haas, Jr. Fund’s Children, Families, and Neighborhoods programs. Her many contributions include serving as the Fund’s liaison with the San Francisco Beacon Initiative and the State Master Plan Steering Committee for universal access to after-school programs (Prop. 49).

Cheryl brings to the Fund decades of experience in policy work focused on children and families in low-income communities. She served as a senior associate at the Center for the Study of Social Policy in Washington, D.C., where she helped develop and test community initiatives aimed at improving the life conditions of low-income children and families. She managed a multi-site evaluation of the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s New Futures Initiative, which focused on reducing school dropouts, teen pregnancy and youth unemployment in five cities.

She also worked as a research assistant at the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C., where she analyzed social policies affecting families and helped community groups create consumer guides to long-term care facilities.

Cheryl earned a Masters in Educational Psychology at the University of Arizona, Tucson. She began her career teaching elementary school students, designing and implementing programs both for learning-disabled and for gifted and talented children.
