50th Anniversary Grants

Since 1953, the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund has been investing in and working with nonprofit organizations to build a strong and vibrant community. In 2003, we celebrated our 50th anniversary by honoring the work of our grantees. The Haas, Jr. Fund awarded a total of $5 million in unrestricted, general support grants to more than 110 nonprofits.

The Haas, Jr. Fund selected two groups of organizations to receive 50th anniversary awards. The first was composed of 50 nonprofits whose work is central to our program strategies and initiatives, as well as other key organizations that have had a lasting association with the Haas, Jr. Fund and our trustees. The second group included more than 60 nonprofits that provide critical services to a significant number of the most needy in our community.

We asked grantees to use this award in the best way they saw fit to advance their missions—perhaps to keep a program going, to venture a new idea, for board/staff development, or to build a reserve fund.

These grants were given to these organizations as an expression of the Haas, Jr. Fund’s respect for the strong leadership, determination and talent of their board and staff members. We were honored to recognize our grantees’ accomplishments in this special way.
