Bob Bailey

Director, Human Resources and Administration

Bob oversees the Fund’s efforts to create a healthy workplace and an effective organization.

Bob is director of human resources and administration at the Fund. In this position, he is responsible for overseeing the Fund’s office operations and managing and providing a full range of human resource services to the Fund and its staff. Among Bob’s priorities are facilitating more collaboration across the Fund’s staff teams and supporting staff in taking advantage of opportunities to develop their skills.

Bob joined the Fund in 2007, drawn to its work and mission by a longtime interest in social justice, community service and organizational effectiveness for nonprofits. For the previous six years, he had worked as acting and associate director of human resources at Tides, the San Francisco-based nonprofit that partners with foundations, corporations and others on an array of social causes. At Tides, Bob gained considerable experience in nonprofit governance while providing services to many progressive organizations, including some Fund grantees.

Previously, Bob worked as assistant to the city manager of Berkeley, staff director for the Berkeley Police Review Commission, and ombudsman for the Connecticut Correctional System. Working for these employers over the course of 20 years, Bob developed a broad range of experience in organizational learning and change, team and staff development, performance management, employee-labor relations, mediation and conflict resolution.

Bob currently serves on the board of directors for the California Partnership for Safe Communities. His other community service has included extended service on the boards of Resource Media; SEEDS Community Resolution Center; and Community Boards of San Francisco. Bob also has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of San Francisco in its organizational behavior program.

Bob received his master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut.
