How to Invest in Immigrant Integration

Engaging newcomers and communities to build a stronger society

A succinct 2006 toolkit provides data, perspectives, policy models, and other resources to inform philanthropic work on immigrant integration.

The story of immigration goes far beyond borders and visas—it’s about opportunities for people and their families. For both newcomers and policy makers, integrating new immigrants into receiving communities is a complex and sometimes delicate task. In 2006 Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees (GCIR) published a toolkit to inform philanthropic investment in community-based immigrant integration. The package includes profiles of promising programs, a documentary on the human face of immigration issues, and interviews with leaders dealing with integration across all sectors.
