Transfer is Personal.
Learning from it is Collective.
Four students share the choices, detours, advocates, and small acts of courage that carried them from one learning community to the next.
Improving the transfer process is one of the most powerful equity strategies in higher education. We believe in a future where students don’t lose credits, time, or hope. And we’re partnering with leaders and innovators to build that future. Our focus: ensuring that community college students can transfer hard-earned credits easily and efficiently, so they stay on track to a bachelor’s degree.
We commissioned Transfer Nation, a multimedia community and knowledge hub for professionals committed to improving transfer outcomes, to conduct a series of interviews. These videos highlight students’ firsthand experiences navigating the transfer process. Through these stories, students share what worked, the barriers they encountered, and how transferring credits affected their paths toward a bachelor’s degree.
We invite educators, advocates, higher education leaders, and our partners to listen to these students’ stories and consider what it will take to create a simpler transfer process. Alongside our efforts to use artificial intelligence to reduce credit loss and streamline transfers across California’s public higher education systems, these stories underscore why we are working toward clearer, more affordable, and more achievable pathways to graduation.
