Fostering Success at Community Colleges

How can community colleges best foster student success?

This report looks at community college policies in California and how they might be reformed.

With a shortage of college-educated workers projected for California in the coming decades, community colleges may be a vital part of the solution. In 2007 the Institute for Higher Education Leadership & Policy published “Beyond the Open Door: Leveraging Institutional Change Through State Policy Reform,” a detailed study of the factors that contribute to student success at community colleges. The study lays out policy recommendations for states and institutions to make sure more community college students move on to the workforce with completed educations.
