April helps administer the Fund’s Bay Area partnerships and initiatives and supports its communications efforts.
April plays a key role in the administration of grants for the Fund’s community partnerships and initiatives, including Crissy Field, the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund, and U.C. Berkeley. She also works closely with the Fund’s communications team.
April joined the Fund’s staff in 2016 after working with the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) in Oakland. She first joined the EBALDC team in 2013 as a participant in a nine-month Americorps program that combines leadership development with service learning and a nonprofit apprenticeship. April subsequently was hired by EBALDC to support its fundraising and communications work.
In other experience, April has worked as a fellow at Net Impact, an international nonprofit supporting students and professionals to work for social change. She also was an intern with CounterPULSE, a pioneering San Francisco arts organization. In early 2016, she traveled alone throughout Southeast Asia on a trip that convinced her of the importance of working to ensure that all people have opportunities to escape poverty and build lives of dignity for themselves and their families.
April has bachelor’s degrees in Asian American studies and physical anthropology from U.C. Santa Barbara, where she served as a finance board member with Associated Students.
I am passionate about social justice and equality of opportunity. It is an honor to work alongside so many wonderful organizations that are making a difference on these issues.
