Rita handles the Fund’s payroll, grants and accounts payable, monthly accounting and reporting, cashflow management, and other aspects of finances and accounting.
Rita Mendeleva is a key member of the Haas, Jr. Fund’s finance team. She is responsible for processing all payments, forecasting and reporting functions, and working with the controller and chief financial officer to ensure the integrity of financial systems and controls.
Rita received her undergraduate degree from longtime Haas, Jr. Fund partner U.C. Berkeley after transferring there from a community college in the Los Angeles area. She said she is particularly inspired by the Fund’s commitment to leveling the playing field in higher education. “I saw firsthand how the path to a four-year university can be confusing and intimidating for community college students and how students need help finding their way and accessing resources,” she said.
Rita joined the Haas, Jr. Fund’s staff after working in accounting positions with mission-focused businesses and nonprofits in the Bay Area including Kiva, which uses crowdfunding strategies to provide loan capital to underserved communities around the world.
Rita received a BS in business administration from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.
From democracy and social justice to expanding access to higher education, I feel personally connected to the issues we work on at the Fund.
